Matsushita Develops Device for High-Speed Power Line Communications

Matsushita has developed a device for high-speed power line communications. The device, which is built into adaptors of power outlets, contains software and a system chip to transmit images, data, and IP telephone calls over existing power lines at a maximum speed of 170 Mb per second. The company plans to start mass production at the end of the fiscal year 2005.
